Celebrating 40 years in business

Mother Earth Food’s 40th Anniversary

Mother Earth Foods reached a major milestone in 2015 celebrating our 40th anniversary as a privately owned retail business. We have provided the Mid-Ohio Valley with healthful organic foods, vitamins, and herbs since 1975. It was a year of major accomplishments, events and festivities.

Our crowning achievement occurred in December when we were honored by the Mid-Ohio Valley Chamber of Commerce as Small Business of the Year!

We wrapped up our renovations at the beginning of 2015, with the addition of 800 new square feet of retail space and solar roof panels to “green” the store and complement our energy needs. Product offerings were expanded with a new freezer and refrigerator section and the addition of craft beer and organic wine.

The improvements were done just in time for our 40th Birthday Sale in February. Despite inclement weather, we had a great turnout!

Updates at Mother Earth Foods

The year was also full of fun and instructive events. In early May we hosted our second annual Herb Walk at Cedar Lane Farm. Later that same month, we welcomed Dr. Holly Lucille, who flew in from LA to give a great talk on thyroid health at the Blennerhassett Hotel. In June, Dave gave a presentation at the First Christian Church in Parkersburg, Help for the Aging Brain.

Without a doubt, the biggest event of 2015 was our annual Customer Appreciation Weekend. It kicked off with a riverside picnic on Saturday August 29th. The following day, customers enjoyed twenty-five percent off all products in the store and an outdoor tent event, with presentations from our sponsors and friends from the health community. There was a highest-ever turnout on both days.

Hamilton Cabanilla gave a fine talk in September on how to restore digestive health. And in October, our friend Terry Lemerond returned with a follow up lecture on natural pain management. In November, Mother Earth Foods hosted a Chamber after Hours event for the business community with many of our professional peers in attendance. Finally, in December, we treated customers to an Organic Tasting Event with a visit from Santa. Marianna Tiedemann was on hand to demonstrate Mineral Fusion make-up.

So Much MORE than a Vitamin Store!

“There have been many changes in the natural foods industry since we opened our doors in 1975 but one thing that hasn’t changed is our deep commitment to transform the health of our community,” says David Hawkins, owner and CEO of Mother Earth Foods. “Interest in organic foods and natural medicines has grown over the years and we have reached a whole new level of consumer awareness.”

Dave believes that an educated community will make more healthful and informed choices. Under his direction, the store offers a host of educational outreach activities. His weekly radio show, Highway to Health broadcasts live from on WVNT AM from 9 – 10 AM every Wednesday and streams continuously from our website. Dave also provides one-on-one counseling from his Herb Doc consulting practice.
